It seems that the guitar is still around, as it was recently displayed on Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses exhibition – which seems to travel all over the world.

The cable does seem to come out at an angle when compared to Mustang models, and Kurt’s didn’t really have a similar-looking Mustang around that time as far as one can tell. The guitar was also fitted with Gotoh Tune-O-Matic bridge and tuners.Īlthough it is very hard to actually see the guitar just from the video recording of the show, it appears that Kurt did play the guitar live at least once in Dublin at Point Depot on June 21, 1992. They are made by a company called Bartolini, and the humbucker had a coil-split – giving Kurt more control over the tone. The bridge pickup is a humbucker, while the neck and middle pickups are single coils, with the middle one being angled. It holds three pickups compared to Mustang’s two. Always go by the manufacturer's recommendation for string gauge on the guitar, to get the best sound. For instance, if you put light gauge strings on an old Guild that calls for medium gauge strings the guitar will sound like shit, because you don't have enough tension on the soundboard, and conversely if you put medium gauge strings on a Taylor that calls for light gauge it will sound like shit, because you have too much tension on the soundboard making it freeze up. It's especially important on an acoustic to have the correct gauge strings so that they exert the correct amount of downbearing on the bridge, to generate the sound the guitar was meant to make by the manufacturer.
